metaphors

I'm good at coming up with metaphors when I'm in the midst of a heated argument. My forte is when I compare the other person to inanimate objects...or animals.

But, when it comes to writing, well, I never feel I'm able to think of anything original or perfectly fitting. I'm also never sure when I'm over-doing or under utilizing metaphors.

Recently I was describing something to a friend and realized how many metaphors I use in my speech. So, my new action plan is to have an argument out loud with myself and see how many usable metaphors I can create.

This blog post by Meridee Jones Cecil titled THE POWER of METAPHOR is well written and I love this quote from it:
"Metaphor is what creates the scaffolding for abstract thought."
